A Song and A Sandwich with DLT!

Blog time again. We're already at the very end of January and what a busy couple of weeks we've had! Following on from some excellent gigs at the start of the month, 22nd January found us with the wonderful Dave Lee Travis doing an interview and live session for his BBC Three Counties Radio Sunday Morning Show. We had a great time with him - laughed a lot and he makes an extremely good cheese and tomato sandwich in his own home-baked bread! He really is the consummate professional: made us feel very welcome, relaxed and special - I know that's his job but he does it SOOO well! He said some lovely things on air too about our music especially 'Song for a Boy' - a little acapello number inspired by our children - which gave us a real boost . A few days later we were back in the Hertfordshire area to play at The Horn Music Venue in Victoria St., St Albans. What a fab little venue this is! Live music seven nights a week (we need more places like this) so it attracts a listening audience, people who have come for the music. We had a really good night sharing the evening with a lovely singer songwriter and a very Bowie-sounding, very tight band called The Underdogs. They're going to be playing at the King Charles pub, Thames St, Poole Quay on 11th March. Get along to see them. Anyway, we felt we'd played a pretty good, interesting set including Song for a Boy which we'd promised DLT we would perform. He'd predicted that the whole place would go quiet. And it did. And then I thought 'Oh my God, it's all gone quiet! Supposing I cock it up?' But I didn't! And it was really well-received by the audience. We finished the night off with an excellent kebab from the Kebab house just round the corner. Back in the bus. Home at three. Had to wake my sister up to let us in because we'd forgotten our key. Sam and Dave borrowed a sofa each. Great gig!
Since then, we've really been concentrating on our forthcoming charity gig for the Motor Neurone Disease Association on Friday 10th February. (See gigs page for details) We are so delighted and touched by the enormous goodwill this event is receiving. Mel and Dan can hardly move for raffle prizes - and we're still getting more - and tickets are selling extremely well. Our warmest thanks to everyone for their support.
Don't forget we're at the Tudor Rose in Romsey this Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Gigging along nicely!

Hi Everyone! Well, here we are and it's almost at the end of January already. We've had a great start to the new year, gigging our socks off. Our first gig of the year was at The Borderline on 9th January. A small, select, enthusiastic audience ensured we had a brilliant evening. It was lovely that in the audience were some friends and colleagues of Alan's from Buena Vista, Jon Webster from the BPI , and of course my fabulous friend Ray Barker - he's been to all our Borderline gigs! Since then we've played at The Railway Inn in Winchester - lovely to see Malcolm Windett from Lost at Sea there ; The Railway Hotel in Blandford - that was quite a night (Hi to Jenny and to Ian who hardly ever miss a gig) - our next gig there , we're playing until midnight! - and last night we were just down the road in The Salisbury Arms, Purewell. If you're interested in live music, you really should check this place out. A pub that's really making a name for itself as a supporter of live music with excellent facilities where they've really thought about what works and is helpful for the musicians. A great sound system, a listening audience, Ringwood Best and an hospitable landlord and landlady! What more can one ask? We've also started the year with some really positive responses to our album Ghosts of wasted Chances : a feature in Maverick magazine, an excellent review in The Orpheus (the free magazine for Virgin Megastore customers); airplay on a number of radio stations; and a big high for us - an interview and live session with the great Dave Lee Travis which we're doing this Sunday 22nd January. Listen in if you can - BBC Three Counties Radio! We have to thank our publicist Sue Williams of Frontier Promotions for all her work on our behalf. Our next gig is at The Horn Music Club, Victoria St., St Albans on Wednesday 25th January. We'd love to see you there.
