Festival Fun
Well, this is our first year on the festival circuit and we are having a brilliant time. We started off at the fledgling Weymouth Festival on 8th/9th May held in the pavilion. A little scary as we had to perform unamplified – not even a vocal mic! – but in a small room with a receptive audience it seemed to go alright! We’re looking forward to seeing the Weymouth Festival grow bigger and better year on year. Our next festival foray was to the well-established Wimborne Festival in June. This was fantastic – the whole town seemed to embrace the event. You couldn’t move for morris dancers, street performers and stalls everywhere. We had a great time performing on an open air stage outside The Rising Sun at lunchtime and then moving on to the British Legion in the evening. The Legion had a bar extension of course so we found ourselves doing the equivalent of the London Marathon. We started playing at just after 8.30pm and were carried off stage at midnight! We may be mature but we’ve got stamina! And a great audience kept us energised. At the time of writing, we are just recovering from performing at the fabulous Beggars Fair in Romsey on Saturday afternoon and then finishing off the weekend as the final act at The Kings Park Arts and Music Fayre in Bournemouth.. The Beggars Fair, like Wimborne is really well-established, and we were delighted to be playing on the back of a trailer in The Cornmarket. There is definitely something about festival audiences – warm, generous, receptive to original music – makes it lovely to play. The sun shone, the sound was great and we had an excellent time. What a buzz around the whole town!. The Kings Park Arts and Music Fayre has the makings of a brilliant event – one that could really make its mark on the festival map. This was its first year and about 1000 people found their way to the park during the course of the weekend. It was really well organised – loads of loos (very important!) – bands treated really well with food and drink laid on for them and we had a terrific time as the final act of the festival. Still enough people there at 10.00pm on a Sunday to make it special and give plenty of atmosphere. Watch out for this event next year. It could be THE one to be at.
We are really looking forward to continuing our festival gigs – Eastleigh, Earthwise, Portsmouth’s Party in the Park, Southsea and Swanage…Hope to see you there!
Dig that Didgeridoo!
A great moment at The Kings Park Arts and Music Fayre was meeting Nic - he of the amazing dideridoo and African Drum talents! He joined us on stage with no notice at all having only just met us in the bar (where else?) and was just fantastic. We hope Nic will be joining us at several more of our forthcoming gigs. Marylin played on a didgeridoo? Sounds good to us!
