Delicious gig at Strawberries and Steam!
We've just had the best Saturday! We were gigging at the beautiful Strawberries and Steam Fair at Lotmead Farm, Wanborough. It's a stunning site and normally is a pick-your-own strawberry farm but for one weekend, it's transformed into the most lovely, intimate friendly Steam Fair. And guess what? I'm in love. The object of my affections is a rather old lady but still in her prime and exceedingly beautiful. Her name is Sarah; she's a steam engine; and I 'drove' her round the site! Well, maybe 'drive' is not quite the right word for it: steering rather badly, nearly falling off and getting very over-excited is probably a more accurate description! The organisers, Colin and Ian Hatch, made us so welcome - our stage area was just perfect. They said to me :'Hmm when we saw you perform, we knew you'd need more space' Can't think what they meant! We had such a warm, responsive audience, the weather was glorious; a hot blazing sun was replaced by a huge creamy full moon as the night wore on. Sarah was parked up next to the stage all lit up - the best stage lighting a band could have - Samantha Jane even played a fiddle solo from there! - and Sarah blew her steam and tooted along (almost!) in time to our song At The Fair Tonight! A magical experience. We may only just be scraping by doing this music thing, but, I tell you what - a gig like that, and you feel rich enough!
